    Two kinds of 720Hz

The first wave of “720Hz” monitors uses a 27-inch 2560x1440 RGB Tandem OLED panel. It runs at 540Hz at full resolution and switches to 720Hz at 1280x720.[1] The second kind is LG Display’s 24.5-inch panel, which it says runs at 720Hz at native 1920x1080.[3] Reviewers stress the difference: the 27-inch models reach 720Hz only by dropping below their native resolution.[5]

    Why the esports focus

LG Display says esports monitors are mainly 24-inch because players can see the whole screen at a glance.[11] Hardware Busters notes that this segment had been almost entirely TN and IPS LCD before OLED.[12] The PG259QWS Ace will be the stage monitor for the PGL CS2 Major Singapore, from 24 November to 13 December 2026, the first Counter-Strike Major played on OLED.[13]

    What to watch next

The PG259QWS Ace’s retail availability before year-end is the next milestone.[14] LG Display says it plans gaming OLED panels from 20 to 40 inches.[15] For whether these refresh rates help players, see Do 480Hz and 720Hz monitors matter?.
