    Figure AI

Also known as Figure, Figure AI Inc.

Figure AI is a humanoid robot company that builds both its robots (Figure 02 and Figure 03) and their AI, a vision-language-action model called Helix.[1][2] It raised more than $1 billion at a $39 billion valuation in 2025.[3] It is best known for working inside BMW's Spartanburg plant, where Figure 03 began logistics work in June 2026.[4]

    Key facts

Figure AI designs its humanoid hardware and its robot AI in-house. Its deployment at BMW, a named industrial customer, is documented by BMW itself.[1][5]

    Helix, Figure’s robot AI

Figure develops its own vision-language-action model. The first Helix (February 2025) runs an onboard vision-language model at 7-9 Hz (“System 2”) that steers a fast visuomotor policy outputting actions at 200 Hz (“System 1”).[1] Figure says it was the first VLA to give high-rate continuous control of a humanoid’s whole upper body, including individual fingers, and that it runs entirely on onboard GPUs.[6] Helix 02 (January 2026) coordinates the hands, arms, torso and feet.[7] Figure showed it unloading and reloading a dishwasher across a kitchen in a four-minute autonomous run. Underneath is System 0, a learned whole-body controller trained on more than 1,000 hours of human motion data and sim-to-real reinforcement learning.[8] Figure says System 0 replaced 109,504 lines of hand-written C++ code with one neural network.[9]

In September 2026 Figure reported that Helix 2.5 carried out three behaviours in 30 Bay Area homes where no data had been collected: tidying, towel folding and bed making. It reached 56% zero-shot success. A model without pretraining on Figure’s “Index” human-behaviour dataset reached 9%.[10]

    Robots and manufacturing

Figure introduced Figure 03 in October 2025. It has a redesigned camera and hand system for Helix and fingertip sensors that detect forces of about three grams. Figure also built a factory, BotQ, designed to make up to 12,000 robots a year.[2] In April 2026 Figure said BotQ had delivered more than 350 Figure 03s and raised output from one robot a day to one an hour in under 120 days.[11] On 30 September 2026 it said it was retiring its Figure 02 fleet because maintaining it no longer made sense as the Figure 03 fleet grew.[12]

    BMW deployments

BMW says Figure 02 completed an 11-month deployment in the Spartanburg, South Carolina body shop, inserting sheet-metal parts for welding. More than 30,000 BMW X3s were built during that period.[5] In June 2026 Figure 03 started sequencing work in the plant’s logistics area, picking unsorted parts into trolleys in the order assembly workers need them.[4] In May 2026 Figure signed a second commercial deal, with Catalyst Brands, owner of retailers including JCPenney, to deploy humanoids in its distribution network, starting at a logistics center in Reno, Nevada.[13]

    Funding and scale

In September 2025 Figure said its Series C had exceeded $1 billion at a $39 billion post-money valuation, led by Parkway Venture Capital.[3] Its scale is still small. AP reported that Tesla and Figure each shipped a few hundred humanoids or fewer in 2025, against more than 5,000 each for China’s Unitree and AGIBOT.[14]

    Data and compute

In August 2026 Figure launched Index, an app through which people upload videos for robot training; it said it had received over 16 million videos, paid $15 million to contributors and committed to spend over $1 billion on data and compute over the next 12 months.[15] In September 2026 it agreed with the cloud provider Nscale to deploy up to 100,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs from the second half of 2027, an initial $3.5 billion compute commitment, with Nscale also investing in Figure.[16] Figure credits Index pretraining for the jump from 9% to 56% zero-shot success in its home tests.[10]

    Questions readers ask

    What is Figure AI's Helix?

Helix is Figure's in-house vision-language-action model. A slower onboard vision-language system guides a fast policy that outputs actions at 200 Hz.[1]

Does BMW really use Figure robots?

BMW says Figure 02 completed an 11-month deployment in its Spartanburg body shop. In June 2026 Figure 03 began parts-sequencing work in logistics at the same plant.[5][4]

Can Figure robots work in homes?

Figure reported in September 2026 that Helix 2.5 did tidying, towel folding and bed making in 30 homes it had not seen, with 56% zero-shot success.[10]

How many robots has Figure built?

Figure said in April 2026 that BotQ had delivered more than 350 Figure 03 robots and reached a rate of one robot an hour. These are company figures.[11]

    How much is Figure worth?

    Figure's September 2025 Series C valued it at $39 billion post-money.[3]
