    Key dates

Medicare Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs from 15 October to 7 December 2026. People who want to keep their current coverage generally do not need to re-enroll.[1] CMS is expected to announce the 2027 Part B premium separately. In 2025 it announced the 2026 amounts on 14 November.[2]

    Part A and Part B

Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing and hospice care.[8] Most people pay no premium for it, but there is a hospital deductible of $1,736 per benefit period in 2026.[9] Part B covers doctor visits and outpatient care.[8] Its standard premium is $202.90 a month in 2026, up from $185.00, and its deductible is $283.[2] Medicare’s trustees expect the 2027 premium to be about $209.50, but that is an estimate.[3]

The Part A inpatient deductible is $1,736 in 2026, and about 99% of beneficiaries pay no Part A premium.[9] The 2026 Trustees Report, dated 9 June 2026, estimates a 2027 standard Part B premium of $209.50. It notes that Part B financing rates had been set only through 31 December 2026.[3] The Hospital Insurance trust fund is projected to be depleted in the second quarter of 2033, one quarter earlier than in the previous year’s report. Income would then cover 89% of scheduled benefits.[10]

    Part D and Medicare Advantage

Part D covers prescription drugs you take at home.[8] In 2027 the most anyone in a standard Part D plan pays out of pocket for covered drugs in a year rises from $2,100 to $2,400.[4] CMS projects that average premiums for stand-alone drug plans will rise by less than $1 a month, to $36.[11] It projects that the average Medicare Advantage premium will fall to $12.00 a month.[12]

CMS’s CY2027 Rate Announcement raises the standard Part D out-of-pocket threshold from $2,100 to $2,400 and the deductible from $615 to $700.[4] CMS is ending the voluntary Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration after 2026, and the 2027 base beneficiary premium is $41.33.[13] CMS projects average stand-alone PDP premiums rising from $35.09 to $36. It projects the weighted average MA premium falling 16.5%, from $14.37 to $12.00, with about 34 million MA enrollees, roughly 47.4% of Medicare.[11][12] These are CMS projections based on plan bids. What each person pays depends on their plan.

    Drug prices

Negotiated prices for the first 10 drugs took effect on 1 January 2026.[14] Prices for 15 more drugs, including Ozempic and Wegovy, take effect on 1 January 2027.[5] For Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy, the negotiated 30-day price is $274.[15] Separately, CMS’s GLP-1 Bridge offers certain GLP-1 drugs to eligible Part D enrollees for $50 a month through 31 December 2027.[16] CMS estimated beneficiaries will save $685 million in 2027 from the second-round prices.[17] The program is explained in medicare-drug-price-negotiation, and GLP-1 access in the GLP-1 access and pricing debate.

    Help with costs

People with limited income and resources may qualify for Medicare Savings Programs, which can help pay premiums and cost sharing. They may also qualify for Extra Help with Part D costs.[7] Follow announcements, including the official 2027 Part B premium, in the health care changes tracker.
