World Series 2026 contenders: Dodgers, Brewers, Rays and the AL race

Going into the 2026 League Championship Series, the remaining contenders were the two-time defending champion Dodgers, the 103-win Brewers, the Rays, and the winner of Guardians-White Sox.[1][2][3] Sportsbook odds reported by ESPN favoured the Dodgers. A pre-postseason poll of The Athletic's experts most often picked the Brewers.[4][5]

Three teams had reached the 2026 League Championship Series by 11 October, and ALDS Game 5 between the Guardians and White Sox was to decide the fourth.[6][3] This page sets out the facts on each contender, then the forecasts that bookmakers and expert panels published, and who published them. ContentLora makes no picks and gives no betting advice. Odds are quoted only as reported forecasts. Results are on the postseason tracker.

The Dodgers won the previous two World Series.[1] The Brewers’ 103 wins were a franchise record, and Milwaukee has never won a title.[12] As of 8 October the Brewers had the highest OPS (.688) and second-lowest ERA (1.80) of the 2026 postseason.[13] The White Sox started the season at 500-1 to win the World Series, according to ESPN.[14]

Home field in the World Series goes to the team with the better regular-season record.[15] That favours the Brewers, Dodgers and Rays, in that order.[2]

    What the odds say

On 9 October ESPN reported sportsbook odds with the Dodgers as World Series favourites at +125. They were followed by the Rays (+300), Brewers (+310), Guardians (13-1) and White Sox (19-1).[4] The same report had the Dodgers as -160 favourites in the NLCS, even though Milwaukee has home field, and the Rays as probable ALCS favourites.[16] They are reported prices, not probabilities that ContentLora endorses.

    What the experts say

Before the postseason, The Athletic polled more than 20 of its MLB experts. According to Bleacher Report’s summary, 56% picked the Brewers to win, 24% the Rays and 16% the Dodgers.[5] Three ESPN analysts also built their “bold predictions” around a Brewers title.[17]

The Athletic’s Katie Woo dissented. She acknowledged drops in production from Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman but argued that the Dodgers’ rotation should carry them, calling it “the Dodgers’ title to lose”.[18]

    Reading the split

The odds and the expert panels disagree mainly about the NLCS. Bookmakers favour the Dodgers’ track record, while most of The Athletic’s experts backed Milwaukee’s regular season.[16][5] The expert poll was taken before the postseason. Since then the Dodgers and Brewers have both won their Division Series 3-1, so neither side’s case has clearly weakened.[8][7] In the AL, the Rays’ sweep gave them extra rest while the Guardians and White Sox went to a Game 5.[9][3]

Short series are hard to predict, and none of these forecasts is a result. The World Series is scheduled for 23 to 31 October.[19] This page will be updated after the LCS.
